Trouble is brewing again between Malta and Italy after Foreign Minister Matteo Salvini is accusing Malta of abandoning a dinghy with up to 200 migrants on board.
In a tweet, Salvini said Malta had undertaken to assist the dinghy, on which he said there are between 150 and 200 migrants but “as usual” is trying to push the migrants towards Italy, rather than taking them to Malta.
It is yet another shame for the European Union, he wrote. “In Brussels they are more preoccupied with writing letters to Italy than to deal with this problem”.
It is not the first time that Salvini accuses Malta of not doing its duty, although oftentimes it has turned out that Italy’s interpretation of the situation was incorrect.
