Ela Mangion powered Malta to fifth place in this year’s edition of the Junior Eurovision song contest with her song “Marchin’ On”.

Ela’s song was chosen last September to represent the country in Belarus after a national competition, and fared well against the other 19 countries taking part, taking home a total of 181 points from both the jury vote and the online vote.

The 14 year old singer did well especially in the jury voting, where she finished second only to Australia.  In fact, her rendition obtained 12 point scores from the juries of Australia and Georgia.

However, her 12th place finish in the online voting section hampered her hopes for becoming Malta’s third winner of the song contest.

In the end, she finished 34 points off eventual winners Poland.  France took the runners up spot, followed by Australia and Ukraine.

Malta has won the Junior Eurovision song contest on two occasions; Gaia Cauchi won in 2013 with her song “The Start”, and Destiny Chukunyere won in 2015 with her song “Not My Soul”.
