Speaker of the House, Anglu Farrugia today said it was not the intention to infringe any one's liberty of expression, referring to his ruling delivered against The Shift News last week.
Farrugia was replying to a letter sent to him by The Shift News noting a breach in the fundamental right to a fair hearing.
The Speaker of the House said everyone has a right to his opinion and to expression this opinion, in fact the ruling was simply referring to the incorrect reporting of what was said in parliament. It was never meant to limit any one's freedom of expression.
"As happens in all other parliaments in the democratic world, a report of what was said in parliament has to be correct, loyal and balanced," Farrugia said.
Last Tuesday, Farrugia ruled in favour of MP Glenn Bedingfield in his request to correct details in an article published by The Shift News.
The article in question said Bedingfield has "invented" a narrative that suited him with regards to the 17 Black disputes.
The Speaker of the House ruled that The Shift News must correct their article.
