To coincide with the launching of the latest edition of the Guida da Gustare, is an extensive guide to restaurants in Sicily and Malta, a food and wine tasting event was held at the Villa Igiea in Palermo on 9 November.

Chefs, wine and olive oil producers, restaurateurs and food companies were all present displaying their various products. Al least 300 guests were present enjoying the splendid products on offer.

Again this year, Malta has been very well represented by some of its best restaurants.

During the press conference, presided over by the Guide's Editor Carmelo Pagano, the relevance of this project was fully exposed.

MTA Executive Chairman, Gavin Gulia and The Independent Managing Director Noel Azzopardi agree that the guide represents a bridge between the two islands, a valuable instrument to strengthen the relationship between Sicily and Malta through the world of food and wine and all its by products.

Malta is rediscovering Sicilian cuisine and is trying to reflect it into a local offer. It is rediscovering the authentic Mediterranean cuisine that has characterized the Maltese archipelago for centuries

"Malta loves Sicily so much," Gulia said. "We have a great deal in common. The Maltese love to come here, not only for the beauty of the places, but also for its delicious fish-based starters!"

Today, Sicilia da Gustare represents a careful insight to Sicilian and Maltese gastronomic offer. An editorial project made possible by chefs and restaurateurs who strongly believe in it. Some of the dishes presented in the guide were served after the conference.

Directly from Malta, chef Salvatore Piccione, (T'Anna Mari) and Michele Beneventano, Jonathan Vassallo's sous chef (Capo Crudo) enchanted the audience with their delicious dishes.
