Archdiocese invests in clean energy, waste management policy

The Archdiocese of Malta has invested in clean energy by way of the installation of photovoltaic panel system on the Archbishop’s Curia building in Floriana, a statement said.

This will add onto 40 other church entities such as parishes and homes for the elderly that are already making use of energy generated by photovoltaic panels, along with changes made to the rooms and offices of the Curia over the past weeks. The changes include affixing energy saving lamps, and making better us of natural light and changing monitors and computers to versions that use less energy.

Between 19 and 25 November European countries celebrated the tenth edition of the European Week for Waste Reduction, and Curia employees joined by holding various activities to raise awareness on the management and reduction of waste, the reuse of food products and recycling materials.

They also held a briefing for workers in collaboration with Wasteserv on how to reduce food waste and thereby reducing the disposal of organic waste.

A Waste Management Policy was also launched for all employees of the of the Archbishop’s Curia for the purpose of serving as a guide in waste management. Glass mugs were also bought to reduce the use of single-use plastic items.

“Projects and initiatives taken by the Archdiocese reflect the teaching of Pope Francis in his encyclical Laudato Si appeal to citizens to take care of our common house which is the world, by joining together against climate change, practising sustainable development, and protecting life.
