Malta’s gaming industry a ‘prime example’ of a country open to new ideas – PM Muscat

Malta’s gaming industry is a “prime example” of what can be achieved if the country is open to new ideas and industries, Prime Minister Joseph Muscat said as he launched this year’s edition of SiGMA – the Summit of the iGaming industry in Malta.

Muscat said that the iGaming industry had not only survived the test of time, but it had thrived under new circumstances.  20 years ago, Muscat said, many thought that the industry would be risky and short lived; however now it is one of the prime powerhouses on the Maltese islands.

The Prime Minister said that the growth of SiGMA proved the commitment of this economic sector, and was another display of Malta’s credentials as a centre of excellence in the iGaming industry.

He said that the country is going to continue to be a “trailblazer” in other emerging industries that can, in the long run, work in synergy with and enhance that of iGaming, such as blockchain and artificial intelligence.

Muscat continued that the mindset of those within the iGaming industry had to be praised the most, and he said that the mindset of the country had to be the same; always progressing and ever-evolving so to keep up with the competitive spirit of a sector which is always looking to be one step ahead of the world.  He concluded that there is still work to be done, and that Malta can still take the industry “to the next level”.
