Qormi Daikin made it two honours out two in these early stages of the season when they lifted the Challenge Cup following an entertaining 4-2 victory over Sliema Hotsticks.
The game was played at a good pace and though keenly fought though out it was played in a good sporting spirit ably handled by the umpires James Mizzi and Luke Busutill Leaver. It is enough to say that through out the 85 minutes of play (the game went to extra time) only one yellow card was shown. A credit to all concerened.
Qormi started stronger and by the 25th minute had raced into a two goal lead thanks to strikes from captain Steve Tanti and Zac De Giovanni. Sliema Hs kept at at their game and reduced the gap before half time when Christ Agius closed off a short corner action.
Early in the second half Sliema Hs were soon back on level terms when this time Jonathan Borg concluded a short corner action and drew the teams level. Despite there being still plenty of time to play the result did not change and the game went to extra time.
Two quick goals in the first half of extra time through Keith Bajada and Luke Bajada put Qormi back in the driving seat and gave little chance to Sliema to peg them back again. After the match HAM President Gordon Mifsud presented the trophy to Qormi Daikin.
Before the Final White Hart took third place in this competition when they beat Floriana Young Stars 2-1. David Agius and Francesco Lombardo scored for the winners and Jamie Mifsud replied for Young Stars. Robert Aquilina and Shawn Mifsud umpired the game.
