The Malta Under-21 team will launch their 2021 UEFA U-21 Championship qualifying commitments with an away double header – against Northern Ireland and Ukraine on September 6 and 10, 2019 respectively.
The match calendar was released on Tuesday afternoon following the draw made earlier in the day at UEFA’s Nyon headquarters.
Malta have been drawn in Group Eight along with Denmark, Romania, Ukraine, Finland and Northern Ireland.
As in previous Under-21 competitions over the past four years, the Malta Under-21 team will play most of their early qualifiers away from home before taking in five consecutive home qualifiers in 2020.
After their opening away qualifiers against Northern Ireland and Ukraine in September, the Malta Under-21s travel to Finland on October 10. The following month, they head back up north to face Denmark on November 19.
In March 2020, Malta start their home commitments when they host Ukraine and Finland on March 27 and 31.
Another home double header awaits in September as Malta meet Northern Ireland on the fourth and Romania four days later.
The Maltese team will conclude their qualifying campaign in October with a home match against Denmark on the ninth followed by the last qualifier away to Romania on 13th October.
Malta U-21 coach Silvio Vella, Ivan Vella, the Director of the National Teams, and Jason Vella, the Malta U-21 Team Manager, were present for the draws in Nyon on Tuesday.
