Neville Gafa does not work within the Office of the Prime Minister, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Health Ministry, according to replies given in parliament on Tuesday.

The information came to light after a series of parliamentary questions posed by PN MP Claudette Buttigieg were answered on Tuesday.

Buttigieg asked the three entities whether Gafa worked with their office, or within any secretariats, entities or departments that each respective office or ministry was responsible for.

Prime Minister Joseph Muscat replied that "The individual whose details were given is not an employee in the Office of the Prime Minister", whilst Foreign Affairs Minister Carmelo Abela simply said that the individual does not work within his ministry.

Health Minister Chris Fearne meanwhile said that Gafa is "not part of the Health Ministry's secretariat".

Speaking to this newsroom earklier on Tuesday, a Health Ministry spokesperson said, “The latest development is an administrative process switching Mr Gafa's contract from the Foundation for Medical Services to another entity, and is independent of recent media stories”.

The ministry did not say what entity he was transferred to.

The health ministry added that, “In practice Neville Gafa has not been working  in the Health Secretariat for more than two years.”

Meanwhile,

Gafa was once again mired in controversy after he was pictured with Libyan officials in Libya.  Furthermore, it was reported on Tuesday morning that Gafa had been sacked from the Foundation for Medical Services, although Prime Minister Joseph Muscat told journalists that Gafa had simply been transferred.

A request by the Opposition for a ministerial statement on Gafa was met with a wall of silence from the government side of the House on Tuesday.

Attempts to contact Gafa throughout Tuesday were unsuccessful.

Buttigieg: Proof that Gafa was fired after PQs submitted

MP Claudette Buttigieg, who posed the aforementioned questions to each respective ministry, said in a tweet that the answers given indicating that Gafa did not work with OPM or the Health or Foreign Affairs ministries were proof that Gafa was fired after he parliamentary questions were submitted.

She noted, producing a screenshot with her tweet, that Gafa is still regisered with the Ministry of Health.
