30 local councils were granted financial assistance through the capital projects fund, to carry out 32 different projects across Malta and Gozo.

So far, 18 projects have been finalised, while the majority of the rest are in an advanced stage, a government statement read.

Parliamentary Secretary for Local Government and Communities Silvio Parnis visited the site of one of these projects in Xgħajra.

The Xgħajra Local Council was given the sum of €211,250 through the capital projects fund.

Later on, Parliamentary Secretary Parnis also visited the site of another project in Qrendi which is also funded by the said fund. To date, the Qrendi Local Council has received the sum of €191,250. The Parliamentary Secretary said that both the Parliamentary Secretariat for Local Government and Communities and the Local Government Divison are committed to continuing to increase benefits in our communities, and that this is why several schemes aimed to assist our local councils in their work are being introduced every year.

Silvio Parnis also recalled that the overall increase in the financial allocation to local government is that of €6.933 million.

Director for the Local Government Division Marisa Pisani said that this scheme will be issued again next year in order for more local councils to be able to benefit from similar projects for the benefit of our citizens.
