A 38-year-old man from Senglea was remanded in custody on Wednesday morning after he was charged with aggravated drug possession.

Lawrence Fabri was arrested in Paceville early on Christmas Day after the police received a tip-off.

Around 60 ecstasy pills were found inside his car while a further 60 pills were allegedly found in a Paceville playground.

The man offered resistance when the police went to arrest him.

Fabri left jail just three months ago after serving a prison term.

The prosecution, led by Inspectors Mark A. Mercieca and Anthony Scerri, charged FAbri with the aggravated possession of ecstasy, being in possession of drugs within 100 metres of a place frequently visited by young people and relapsing.

He pleaded not guilty and requested bail but Magistrate Gabriella Vella remanded him in custody, citing his lack of trustworthiness and the fact that police investigations are ongoing.

Lawyers Franco Debono and Marion Camilleri appeared for the accused.
