Birkirkara FC on Thursday announced that they had completed their second signing in the January transfer market after reaching an agreement with Floriana FC for the permanent move of the national team player Clayton Failla.

The former Hibs and Sliema defender signed a two and a half years contract with the Stripes.

Failla, 32, needs no introduction in Maltese football. He can play in both defence and midfield, and has established himself as one of the best left-footed players on the island.

Clayton had a short spell with Floriana FC, as he only joined them in the beginning of the season to end his successful long spell with Hibernians FC. With the Greens, he made 12 appearances, scoring two goals.

Failla is also an active player with the national team. He made his debut on the 19 November 2008 in the international friendly match played at home against Iceland. He has a total of 55 caps and scored two goals.
