Seven strong earthquakes hit the Etna area in Sicily early this morning, Italian media report.
The strongest of the tremors was registered at 5.10am, and measured 3.5 on the Richter scale. Another six tremors were felt during the night, all registering between 2.3 and 3.0 on the same scale.
Seismic activity started when the Etna volcano erupted just before Christmas and has continued since.
On the night between Christmas and Boxing Day, a tremoe measuring 4.8 was registered, causing damages to structures and injuring 28 people.
