Archbishop visits impounded migrant rescue ship, calls for European solution to migrant crisis

Archbishop Charles Scicluna on Saturday visited the MV Lifeline migrant rescue ship which has been impounded in Malta since June.

The vessel is operated by the NGO Mission Lifeline.

Speaking during the visit, the Archbishop appealed to the European Union to act without haste and save the migrants that have been stranded at sea for days.

He referred to the appeal he issued earlier this week together with Gozo Bishop Mario Grech and Auxiliary Bishop Joseph Galea-Curmi, where they called for solidarity by the EU with the vulnerable.

He said there needs to be a European solution to the migration phenomenon and said it was an injustice how the migrants had become victims of political bickering.

“Human life is priceless and the negotiations can never come at the expense of people who are suffering,” the Archbishop said.
