The government said today that it had lodged a formal complaint with the police for it to investigate fake news websites.

It was referring what stories that were appearing on the internet, including the social media, in which the Prime Minister and other government exponents were being mentioned.

The stories also carried adverts on bitcoin products.

The government said it takes these matters seriously. Such stories, it said, were fraudulent in nature.
