Ukrainian man drowns in Sliema, two others slightly injured while trying to save him

One man drowned and two others were injured in an incident that took place at Exiles beach, Sliema, earlier today.

The police said a 26-year-old Ukrainian man who lives in St Julian’s fell into the sea at around 4.20pm.

Two men, a 26-year-old man from St Julian’s and a 25-year-old Ukrainian jumped into the water to help him but could not find him in the rough sea. They suffered slight injuries in the process.

The two men were taken to Mater Dei Hospital by ambulance. The victim was located sometime later with the help of members of the Armed Forces of Malta.

Magistrate Yana Micallef Stafrace is leading an inquiry. The police are also investigating.
