Senglea obtained a humiliating 4-0 win over direct relegation rivals Qormi yesterday in an action-packed match.

It was their second win in the Premier League this season, but it enabled them to leave the bottom place to Qormi alone.

Goals by Augusto Caceres in the first half and Benac Gonzalez, Matias Garcia and Romulo Silva Santos in the second saw them winning three useful points which may still give them hopes of avoiding relegation.

They are now on 7 points, just three away from Qormi and five behind Mosta. Qormi, on the other hand, remain bottom on 4 points.

This was a relegation battle - an action packed match - between the two bottom placed clubs, both needing the points to move closer to the clubs above them, that is Pieta and Mosta.

Both sides introduced new foreigners in their line-ups. Qormi had Mateus Reggis Da Silva, Wellington De Oliveira and Lucas Santana, while Senglea included E. Mehdi Sidqy, Diego Venancio, Romulo Silva Santos and Yudai Miyamoto.

In the first half, both sides showed great determination, but it was Senglea who found the net to go for a rest in the lead.

Qormi did not stare at their opponents and also had a good chance but were unlucky with a great shot from Reggis that hit the crossbar.

In the second half, as widely expected, Senglea concentrated more on defending their slender lead.

This allowed Qormi to take the initiative, but they were only spared a few shots from the distance as Senglea were well organised.

Meanwhile, Senglea scored a second on the break and then went on to added two more goals near the end for an overwhelming victory.

Senglea took the lead on the 14th minute when from a Leighton Grech cross, it was Augusto Caseres who headed home past Azzopardi from close in.

Senglea protested for a penalty on 23 minutes for an alleged Micallef handling in the area, but the official, close to the action, waved play on.

At the other end, on 28 minutes, Qormi's Venancio had an angled shot going wide.

Qormi were unlucky not to equalise on 34 minutes when Mateus Reggis 25-metre effort hit the crossbar with Senglea goalie Farrugia beaten.

At the other end soon after, a Garcia shot was cleared from over the line by Iven Zammit.

On 42 minutes, Farrugia was called upon to save an overhead kick from Reggis Da Silva.

On 53 minutes, from a Reggis cross, substitute Tensior Gusman saw his header going just wide.

In the 62nd minute Reggis again tried his luck from 30 minutes, but goalie Farrugia was not surprised.

On 67 minutes, it was goalie Farrugia who denied Qormi an equaliser saving a close racing angled effort from Rozzi.

Senglea added a second goal on 71 minutes, albeit against the run of play. From a Venancio cross, it was Gonzalez who headed into the Qormi net.

Senglea increased their lead on 80 minutes. It was Matias Garcia who scored with a grounder that completely beat Azzopardi.

Senglea were now all over their opponents and it was no surprise that they added a fourth through Romulo Silva Santos on 87 minutes.
