A woman who was riding pillion was seriously injured in a traffic accident in San Gwann on Sunday afternoon, the police said.

The accident happened in Birkirkara Road at 12.30pm.

A 51-year-old man of Mosta lost control of the bike he was riding and fell off. The woman, also aged 51 from Msida, was thrown off the bike and was seriously injured.

She was taken to hospital for treatment.
