The first €25,000 in funds from the Government to animal NGOs was officially announced today by Parliamentary Secretary for Agriculture, Fisheries and Animal Rights Clint Camilleri.
After the scheme for free veterinary services for NGOs was launched in 2018, this was another measure in the Labour party’s electoral manifesto, and another €80,000 will be given to NGOs throughout the rest of the year.
These funds will be used by APH Veterinary Hospital for the provision of more complex diagnostic procedures, operations and hospitalization. This is a service that the sole animal hospital can provide for patients to be referred to by veterinarians of the NGOs until the funds are exhausted.
The NGOs benefitting from this fun are Carers for Stray and Abandoned Felines, Island Sanctuary Association, National Cat Society, Association For Abandoned Animals, Noah’s Ark Foundation, C.L.A.W.S., Animal Care Malta, SPCA Malta, Stray Animals Support Group, Gozo SPCA, u Love For Strays Malta.
The funds were given after information provided by the animal sanctuary was verified and certified as to avoid abuse. NGOs are to be allocated a sum proportional to the number of animals verified through the microchip database.
