The streets of Marsalforn were once again awash with seawater as the promised breakwater has failed to materialise for yet another year.
Videos uploaded on social media show how the waves brought about by strong north-westerly winds ended up on the popular promenade, and into restaurants and private residences.
One of the videos (below) was uploaded by PN councillor Daniel Cordina, who said people were angry at the lack of a breakwater. Cordina said residents, fishermen and shop owners were suffering every time the popular seaside village was hit by rough weather.
He said studies had been carried out during the tenure of former Gozo Minister Giovanna Debono but the plans had been shelved with the change in government.
Back in 2017, a new masterplan for Marsalforn was launched. At the time, Gozo Minister Justyne Caruana had mentioned studies about the breakwater, regarding how it should eventually be built. Caruana had later said that plans for the reconstruction of the Marsalforn breakwater are proceeding well.
