Fourth suspect from Marsa police raid charged in court

A fourth suspect of the five arrested during a police raid on Marsa warehouse last Sunday was charged with drug trafficking in court on Thursday.

Before magistrate Claire StafraceZammit, 24-year-old Josef D’Amato from Marsa was charged with dealing cocaine and heroin and trafficking cannabis.

He was also charged with the possession of an amount of cocaine under circumstances indicating it was not for his personal use, as well possession of heroin and cannabis.

D’Amato was one of five suspects arrested in the raid, in which the police recovered a kilogram of heroin. The raid was carried out by member of the Drugs Squad, the Special Intervention Unit, the Dogs Section and the District Police on stables in Triq it-Tigrija.

D’Amato was also accused of breaching conditions previously imposed on him by the Court of Magistrates requiring him no sign a bail book at the Marsa police station and to not commit another crime.

Three other suspects were charged earlier this week in connection with the same raid.

D’Amato was remanded in custody.

Lawyer Alfred Abela appeared for the accussed.
