Santa Lucia made it a double over Qrendi yesterday, repeating the 3-0 scorline they obtained in the first round. It was a harsh result for Qrendi to swollow with the turning point just at the begining of the second half, when Santa Lucia were awarded two penalties.

These were two harsh decisions taken by the referee Spiteri, with the second penalty, a very highly dubious one. Sant Lucia found the going hard in the first half against a well organised Qrendi side.

The two penalties inside the opening eight minutes of the second half tilted the balance completely in favour of Santa Lucia, who then added a third goal, a well taken goal by substitute Paul Lapira.

Zejtun C-Zebbug R          3-0

Żejtun C: G. Zammit, C. Giordemaina, A. Carabott, A. Smeir (R. Spiteri 65’), G. Sultana, J. Castano, D. Albanese (I. Azzopardi 77’), R. De Fex Marriaga (V. Geraskins 85’), B. Farrugia, N. Tabone, G. Azzopardi.

Referee: Etienne Mangion

Scorers: G. Sultana 22’, A. Smeir 29’, 44’

Zejtun made it four in a row beating Zebbug by three clear goals, all scored in the first half for a deserved victory as Anonam’s side keeps climbing up the table.

Zejtun wrapped the match in the first half scoring three good goals in the process after a very quite start. Zejtun scored in their first attempt on 22 minutes when Gianluca Sultana first timed beautifully home from a distance.

On 29 minutes Adam Smeir shot home following a good Carabott run on the left and just before the break, another good run by Carabott, this time on the right, and his pass was again met by Adam Smeir who drilled the ball home.

In the second half Zejtun absorbed the pressure as Zebbug pushed everything forward, but they were never really effective up front and the Zejtun defence controlled with relative ease till the final whistle.
