Indian company Aurobindo, which has operated in Malta for the past 15-years, is to invest and expand its research facilities, Prime Minister Joseph Muscat announced today.
The announcement was made during a question and answer session of an activity organised for Maltese and Indian businesses during a summit in India.
The €3 million investment, he said, will be in oncology-related research.
The Prime Minister said that Malta and India have common traditions and values, while highlighting that Malta is the ideal place to infiltrate other markets like Europe from. He said that Malta is pro-business.
He also mentioned that there is cooperation between Malta and India in the pharmaceutical sector, highlighting that the Malta Medicines Authority carries out inspections in certain areas, in order to see whether a mark of quality certificate can be issued.
The Prime Minister reiterated that Malta could be the centre for Indian companies presently operating in the UK, for relocation and co-location.
