Davy Angan struck a brace between the 62nd and 78th minutes to give Mosta a 2-0 win over Tarxien Rainbows.

The victory enabled Mosta to move to 11th place in the standings on 15 points, one ahead of Senglea.

Despite the defeat, Tarxien remain comfortably in 8th place on 19 points.

In the first half, play was more or less balanced but it was mostly restricted to midfield as neither team managed to have a solid edge.

Mosta, perhaps, had slightly more possession, and even had the better chances though these were few and far between on both ends.

The best opportunity for Mosta arrived a few minutes before the interval whistle as a shot by Brincat was excellently saved by goalie Cassar.

In the second half, after the opening fury by Tarxien which produced nothing, Mosta were the better team and they eventually took the lead through their best player Angan.

From then onwards, Mosta were in command even if Tarxien were very unlucky not to have equalised through a Paolucci effort which hit both uprights.

The first action arrived on the 7th minute when Paolucci dribbled round his opponent, but his shot was blocked by Mosta goalie Vella.

At the other end, on 15 minutes, Mosta threatened through a Roach cross which was cleared with some difficulty by the Tarxien defence.

Mosta made And moments later, it was goalie Cassar who denied Angan as he blocked the Mosta striker's effort.

In the 22nd minute, Angan set Roach in the Tarxien area, but Mambouana was on hand to clear to corner in extremis.

Five minutes later, the same Mambouana had a freekick just missing the target.

In the 41st minute, Mosta threatened seriously through a Zachary Brincat fine shot from outside the area, but goalie Cassar dived sideways to deny the Blues the lead with a fine save.

Early in the second half, Tarxien threatened to take the lead but Ricardo Faria miskicked the ball following a cross from the right - the ball was eventually cleared to safety by the Mosta defence.

In the 62nd minute, substitute Ekani set Cisotti in the area, but the latter's shot was turned to corner. From the resultant cornerkick, it was Davy Angan who rose above friend and foe to head home into the net.

Four minutes later, Tarxien were very unlucky not to equalise when Michele Paolucci received a good ball in the area and his shot hit the two uprights before stopping practically on the goalline and then saved by goalie Vella.

Mosta assured themselves of the three points when they scored a second goal on 78 minutes. It was again Angan who again found the Tarxien net following a good cross by Cisotti.

Gianluca Cuomo also tried his luck for a third Mosta goal, but his shot from outside the area went wide.

Before the end, Mosta went close to a third goal with a Morisco Da Silva shot that hit the crossbar.
