Mqabba finally found the the back of the net of their opponents after six consecutive matches, to end this barren spell and also gain a precious victory against bottom of the table side Marsa.

Coach Alfred Attard finally managed the first point for Mqabba, who surely were not prepared to fight against relegation at the start of the season. Aleksandro Dos Santos Ferreira scored a brace in the opening fifteen minutes to give his side three valuable points.

For Marsa this was the eighth successive defeatand although they are showing some signs of improvement, their chances of avoiding the big drop are slim indeed, parctically none.

Naxxar Lions burst Zejtun’s bubble yesterday inflicting on them a heavy defeat that practically eliminates Zejtun from the promotion race. This was a match between two sides in fourth position, both chasing Gudja in third place.

Zejtun were coming from five consecutive victories and had also beaten the then still unbeaten Santa Lucia in their last outing. But yesterday Steve D’Amato’s boys stunned their opponents with an almost perfect display of football.

Naxxar set the match on the right track with two goals in the opening twenty minutes, but Zejtun pulled one back through league top scorer on the half hour.

In the second half Zejtun were expected to make a comeback, but although having territorial superiority, the Naxxar defence was never in danger. The Lions put the game to bed with two further goals in the last ten minutes.
