The dog belonging to the woman who was found dead in her bed three months after her demise was found dead beneath her bed this morning.

The woman, Janet Harvey, 69, was found dead on Monday. The grim discovery was made after the British High Commission alerted the police following reports received from her relatives in England.

Animal activist Moira Delia wrote on her Facebook page that four cats were rescued from the apartment, while a dog was found dead beneath the bed.

Contacted by The Malta Independent, Delia said she had been contacted by the police to deal with the pets which were found in the Qawra apartment. She said that the Animal Welfare Department had been unable to carry out the job, and the MSPCA was asked to intervene.

"When I arrived on site we expected to find a dog and six cats. But the dog was found dead beneath the bed, and we found only four of the cats. The cats were found to be in good health. They are being kept in quarantine for the next few days before being put up for adoption."

The apartment was filthy with animal excrement, she said.

Delia will be giving an account of the recovery of the animals tonight on Animal Diaries, on TVM at 6.30pm, with the participation of Animal Welfare Commissioner Dennis Montebello.
