Airshow cancelled again: Konrad Mizzi breaks a record – Francis Zammit Dimech

Tuesday, 26 February 2019, 08:59 Last update: about 6 years ago

Nationalist MEP Francis Zammit Dimech expressed disappointment after the airshow, normally held in September, was cancelled for the second consecutive year. "This is a niche that affects many Maltese aviation enthusiasts, families who await this appointment to take their children to watch the show and attracts many high quality tourists to our country," he said in a statement.

MEP Francis Zammit Dimech said "It is a pity that in recent months we have repeatedly heard how the Malta Aviation Society was not finding any support to organise the airshow". He recalled how Nationalist administrations offered support for this activity to take place. He added that when he served as Minister for Tourism, the airshow was organised one year after another without ever missing an edition.  He said that when the Malta Aviation Society had asked for help he had offered support for the activity to become an annual event in the tourism calendar.

Zammit Dimech added that as Minister, Konrad Mizzi had broken a record, since during his two year stint as Tourism Minister, the airshow was not organised for two consecutive years. Zammit Dimech said that he will be offering full support so that airshow will once again become an annual appointment under a new Nationalist government for the benefit of aviation enthusiasts, the Maltese and Gozitan families and all those working in the tourism sector.
