A goal in the first part of the first half gave Floriana three valuable points in their quest to climb up the ladder and avoid the red zone in a direct clash against Senglea. Keqi's goal brought to an end Senglea's positive run which started in  the begining of the year.

Floriana went into this match engulfed in problems both on and off the field. From their last five matches they had only grabbed three points in three draws and thus failing to win. For this match they had to do without the suspended Jurgen Pisani.

On the other hand Senglea were the team of the moment with four wins and a draw to their credit from their last five outings. Prior to this match just a point separated Senglea from Floriana.

In the first round match the Greens had an easy day disposing Senglea by a 4-1 scoreline.

Only twenty seconds had elapsed when Floriana could have taken the lead. Vieira with only Farrugia to beat wasted the easiest of chances when he sent his shot wide off the mark.

Senglea responded in the 4th minute when a Garcia shot was saved by Akpan. And a  minute later a diagonal shot by the same player was blocked by the Greens custodian.

In the 13th minute Floriana went near when a shot on the turn by Vieira was saved  by an alert Farrugia.

Floriana opened their accounts in the 16th minute when  Kristian Keqi's low drive from inside the area left Farrugia stranded and found the corner of the net.

After this goal Senglea failed to react with play restricted for long stretches in the midfield sector. In fact it was only in added time that a chance came Senglea's way when off a Marukawa cross from the left flank in came Caseres whose shot was saved by Akpan.

On resumption and inside the first minutes Senglea pressed forward and on 49 minutes off Garcia set Marukawa but the latters shot hit the upright.  Three minutes later Senglea threatened again this time through a Caseres acute shot which missed the target by a whisker.

The Cottonera outfit kept on dictating matters and in the 56th minute  a Venancio free kick was saved by Akpan.  And three minutes later another Venancio free kick was this time partially saved by Akpan and from the rebound Caseres blasted high over the bar.

Five minutes from time Terence Vella could have sealed the issue when he had a free header in the area but his headed effort ended in Farrugia's hands.
