PS denies PN MP’s claims on Algerian visa whistleblower visa revocation

As a lawyer, PN MP Jason Azzopardi should do his research before speaking and tell the truth, Parliamentary Secretary Julia Farrugia Portelli told Parliament this evening.

Farrugia Portelli was reacting to Jason Azzopardi’s claims that an Algerian whistle-blower’s citizenship revoked by Identity Malta. “I hope that Jason Azzopardi is listening and will come up with an apology for not telling the full truth,” the Parliamentary Secretary said.

Farrugia Portelli said that Azzopardi said two lies; firstly he insisted that there has never been a case in Malta where an individual’s citizenship has been revoked for any reason other than them having entered into a marriage.

“This is far from the truth as there have been 17 cases of people who had their citizenship revoked.”

The PS said that Azzopardi had failed to mention that the Algerian was hired by a Nationalist Member of Parliament member, and “how his work contract was photocopied numerous times, which is an abuse.”

“All that Jason Azzopardi had to do was a simple Google search of the actual court case and it is the first case which comes up,” Farrugia Portelli said.

She continued to read out the Court case document explaining that marriage was one of convenience and had nothing to do with Identity Malta and that he was not using any form of mechanisms to be a whistle-blower.
