Partit Demokratiku pledges to defend the George Cross

Tuesday, 19 March 2019, 10:04 Last update: about 6 years ago
In a time when, as part of our tribal politics, individuals seek to attribute more excuses and reasons to sow division, Partit Demokratiku said it wished to instead unite people and to maintain pride and love for our collective patrimony. For this reason, and more, Partit Demokratiku will defend the George Cross on our flag in any Constitutional discussions.
"The George Cross has a unique meaning to the Maltese people, one we bestowed upon it by many still alive today, who we must respect. It is crucial that little Malta and Gozo cherish our identity in a global world, without closing ourselves off," states party leader Godfrey Farrugia.
"War was the great equaliser. We Maltese suffered beside the Allies as comrades and this symbol is also a bridge to that kinship. The George Cross belongs to us and should always take pride of place," says deputy leader Timothy Alden.
Partit Demokratiku said it will therefore remain forever steadfast in respect to having the George Cross on our flag.
