A teenager was injured after a car overturned in Lija this afternoon

The car was being driven from Mosta towards Lija when it hit four cars being driven in the other direction and overturned. 

The accident took place at around 2.30pm.

The driver, a 19-year-old from Lija, has been taken to hospital for treatment.

The drivers of the other cars, a 27-year-old woman of Mosta, a 50-year-old man of San Gwann, an 82-year-old man of Naxxar and an Italian 46-year-old man who resides in Sliema were unhurt.

Three fire engines and two ambulances were dispatched to the area of the accident.

The Maltese Traffic Roads Updates on Facebook is advising drivers to avoid the area close to the Lija cemetery.

Traffic is at a standstill in the area.
