Sirens are almost home and dry as they returned to winning ways yesterday beating lowly San Gwann in a one sided affair. Although not at their best, Sirens were still dominant to register this important victory and move closer to a historic promotion to the Premier League for the first time in their history.

Sirens now lead with a 14-point advantage over third placed Santa Lucia and could clinch this promotion on Wednesday with a victory over Mqabba.

Ige Adeshina was Sirens' best player yesterday, scoring the opener just before the break, and adding the second goal ten minutes into the second half.

San Gwann wanted something from this encounter as they fell behind Qrendi who on Friday obtained an important victory against Vittoriosa, but failed to make an impact against a superior outfit.

Referee: Stefan Pace

Scorer: Kurt Borg 93'

A deflected shot by Kurt Borg on 93 minutes decided this clash in favour of Pembroke who defeated Santa Lucia who maintanied the third spot in the standings, but now the race for this spot is wide open.

Santa Lucia remain on 35 points, closely followed by Naxxar with 33 and Pembroke are now on 32 points.

It was a very interesting match with Santa Lucia dominating for long stretches of the match and having the better chances too, even hitting the corss bar five minutes from time.

Moreover Pembroke goalkeeper Philip Schranz was outstanding with two great saves that kept his side in the challenge.  Undoubtedly the introduction of Moacir De Rosa Wilmsen in the last ten minutes of the match tilted the balance in favour of Pembroke as the Brazilian was very menacing and from one of his runs, the ball cam towards Kurt Borg who fired home, thanks to a deflection from a Santa Lucia defender.
