SLIEMA FRANK SALT 6
SIRENS GREENTUBE 9
(1-2), (2-1), (1-3), (2-3)
Both teams were searching for their first points after losing their first two games. Sirens had a slow start to the league while Sliema coach Sergio Afric has a very short squad at his disposal with the majority of the squad based of youngsters.
Sirens deserved to win the game as they were slightly better than their opponents, despite a good effort by Sliema who stayed in the game despite all their difficulties.
Sasko Popovski's team won the first session 2-1. John Napier scored the first goal but few seconds later Michael Spiteri Staines equalised from the penalty spot. Veteran Edward Aquilina put Sirens in front for the second time after scoring a penalty with a bit than a minute left for the end of the session.
Three goals were scored in the seconds all in the space of less than a minute. Nicholas Bugelli had equalised until Luke Caruana made it 3-2 for Sirens but Zach Mizzi equalised again as both teams entered the break in a deserved draw.
Sirens started better the third session and scored from Aquilina. Mizzi equalised for the second time in the middle of the session but from the subsequent action, Paul Privitera gave the advantage for Sirens from a man-up situation. Isaiah Riolo doubled the advantage just before the end of the session with a well-taken shot.
As if it wasn't difficult already, Sirens extended their lead with a goal early in the session from Luke Caruana. Sliema were not going to lose the game that quickly, and were back in the game with a brace by Nicholas Bugelli.
Sliema had a couple of chances to equalise but after Edward Aquilina made it 8-6 with less than two and a half minutes the game was over. Marc Grech even sealed the win with the last shot of the game.
