THINKing about home…

Thursday, 4 April 2019, 12:05 Last update: about 6 years ago

Albert Einstein, Jane Goodall and Sigmund Freud have all discussed the concept of home. For some, the word brings up notions of the death of our planet, for others it conjures the most fond childhood memories. This year, Think has joined these great minds and given its own take on what home means for us, and quite a few researchers at the University of Malta.

The Maltese Islands are an obvious recurrent trend. Researchers talk about our natural environment through a documentary about Comino and the harm we could be doing to it with the excessive use of fireworks. They delve into the changing face of architecture in Malta; others explore Maltese nicknames and what they mean to a community. A passion for politics is another very local trait being explored through art. In this issue, we dive into the media of music and theatre.

But the issue does not focus just on home. Other stories talk about artificial intelligence that is learning to be creative. The team behind LearnD divulge their philosophy behind education and peer teaching that led to their app. And finally, we have a hint of minimalism - the movement showing people that they can live with less and be happier.

'Think', the University of Malta's research magazine, can be picked up for free at the Msida Campus or with the MaltaToday newspaper in newsagents around Malta and Gozo. It is also available online at www.um.edu.mt/think, on Issuu (https://issuu.com/thinkuni) or liked on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/ThinkUM)
