A man was aaved by district police officers after he found himself in difficulty while swimming at Exiles.
At around 1.45pm, the police were informed there was a person at sea at Exiles in Sliema.
The district police were instrumental in saving the person from the sea, the police said.
He was taken to hospital where his general condition was found to be serious.
Magistrate Dr C Galea appointed various experts to help in the inquiry.
The police later released a photo of the man, asking for information about his identity.
In a statement some time later, the police said that the man had been identified. He is a 33-year-old Belgian who resides in Sliema.
