There is no doubt that House of Sport 10K Races have placed themselves firmly on the road running calendar with each race selling out fast each time.

Although original plans for Sunday's Race were to see the race start and finish near Mdina, road works in the vicinity saw a slight change of route with the 10km distance held in the environs of Rabat and Dingli.

A hilly yet scenic route, 350 athletes raced against the back drop of Dingli Cliffs as well as some of lesser known footpaths in Rabat.

Winner of the race was Spaniard Pedro Lopez, who throughout the race ran alongside race favourites Dillon Cassar (Raptorz Running Club), Charlton Debono (Gozo Athletix) and Andrew Grech (Mellieha AC). The last four kilometres of the race were pivotal for Lopez, Cassar and Grech as it became evident that the trio was fighting for the first three places. In the last two kilometres, Lopez and Cassar gave it all out to win the coveted top spot but Lopez got the better of Cassar in the last 60 metres to take the overall win.

"Tough race in general not only due to the hilly route but also to the challenge that Andrew Grech, Charlton Debono and Pedro Lopez gave all the way - we were definitely fighting almost all along the way.  It was a final sprint that enabled Lopez to get the better of me, but nevertheless am super satisfied with today's result" enthused Dillon Cassar.

The Ladies race gave a win to Josann Attard Pulis (Starmax) who was followed by Carmen Vella (Mellieha AC). Third placed was Attard Pulis' Starmax team mate Caroline Ciappara. Attard Pulis commented that although not rested enough for the race, due to her preparations for the forthcoming international commitments in Emilia Romagna, it was a very enjoyable route and was a positive experience throughout.

"It is very satisfying to see the response to our races - this one in particular was overwhelming. Whilst routes might not be the easiest, they are certainly some of the most scenic, so that coupled with the overall race experience draws the crowds "commented Charlie Demanuele, Race Director.

The race organisers would like to thank House of Sports, Starmax, emvigee pr & marketing, ARTTS Timing System, Mdina, Rabat and Dingli Local Councils, Transport Malta, Rabat District Police and Traffic Police for their ongoing support.  Last but not least all the marshalls, race officials and medical teams supporting the race on the day.

The next edition of the House of Sport 10k Series will take place on Sunday 1st September and will take place in Burmarrad. Registrations will be open in due course.
