During the weekend, the Malta Air Rifle and Pistol Shooting Club organised its fourteenth competition of the National League 2018-19 in both Air Pistol and Air Rifle disciplines, at the Larry Vella Hall indoor range in Bidnija. In both events the shooters had to shoot 6 sets of 10 shots for a total of 60 shots each in 1hr 15minutes.
Air Pistol
Eleanor Bezzina set a new national record in the 10m Air Pistol event. During Saturday's competition Bezzina scored sets of 96, 99, 96, 97, 98, 97 with a total score of 583 from 600 points. She has beaten her personal best and national record for the third time during this season. During the qualification round she was followed by Raymond Cacciattolo with 536 points, and in tie placing Stephen Vassallo and Josephine Galea Calleja with 534 points.
During the final, Eleanor kept her momentum and took the lead and won the competition. There was tight marking between the next 3 shooters. Josephine managed to place second followed by Stephen Vassallo in third position.
Eleanor next week will be competing in the ISSF World Cup which will be held in Beijing in China.
Air Rifle
The winner of the 10m Air Rifle event was William Vella with a total of 599.2 from 654 points followed in second place by Isaac Zammit with 579.8 points.
The competition was judged by referee Angelo Galea and assisted by Anton Zammit.
The next MARPSC competition is scheduled for Saturday 27 April at 3.00pm.
