Hazy weather, dirty rain typical for this time of the year – Met Office

The current weather conditions - hazy, with the occasional dirty rain - are expected to persist for the rest of the day, with moderate to poor visibility at times, the Met Office told The Malta Independent.

Dusty skies and horrible sandy rain enveloped the Maltese Islands in the past hoursdue to fine dust coming from the Sahara Desert.  The MET office informed this newsroom that  conditions will start to improve overnight, as the wind direction turns North-Easterly, visibility will become good during the day Wednesday.

Throughout the week the weather is projected to be the typical spring weather, with mostly sunny days and maximum temperatures varying between 20°C and 23°C. North-Easterly Force 5 to 6 winds are expected between tomorrow and Thursday; which will calm down to Force 3 to 4 North-Westerly wind for the rest of the week.

The Met office explained that this kind of weather is extremely typical for this time of year, with the wind direction and the wind speeds experienced. For instance, in April 2018, the Maltese Islands experienced 9 days of dust in suspension, Moreover, another two days in May 2017 experienced fine dust coming from the Sahara Desert.
