Valletta FC and Hibernians will be playing a deciding encounter to establish the winner of the 2019 Premier League championship after both finished on equal points.

Valletta were held to a 1-1 draw by Hamrun Spartans while Hibernians beat Balzan 5-1 to catch them up at the top of the table.

Valletta had taken the lead after 29 minutes thanks to a Fontanella goal. All seemed set for them to clinch their sixth title in the last 9 years, but the match took a turn when the holders weredown to 10 men when Saleh was shown two yellow cards in quick succession and was sent off.

Hamrun managed to grab a very important equaliser on 90+3 thanks to Moukanza, which secures the Spartans their fourth place in the standings.

Hibernians on the other hand won their match against Balzan comfortably. This means that the title will have to be decided via a decider, the date of which is still to be announced.
