The US Embassy, together with the Ministry of Education's Directorate for Quality & Standards in Education, Microsoft Malta, Integrated Marketing Services Ltd and the Astronomical Society of Malta (ASM) recently hosted a 'Space Week'.

The goal of Space Week was to promote Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) studies and careers among students, particularly girls.  During the workshops, students from St Nicholas Rabat Middle School, St Joseph Sliema School and the National Sports School engaged in Piper circuit building and programming, virtual reality spacewalks and exploration, Mars Rover LEGO construction and viewing of the sun and solar system. US aerospace engineer and NASA astronaut Jeanette Epps shared her experience at the International Space Station in a recorded message to the Maltese students.  She encouraged them to study STEM subjects and follow their passion in careers they choose, regardless of the obstacles they may encounter. 

Chargé d'Affaires Mark Schapiro delivered remarks highlighting the importance of science and technology in our future. Referring to astronaut Epps he said: "With such an inspiring example, I wish you every success in chasing your dreams. We are counting on you to take humanity on new adventures."
