An elderly woman was taken to hospital with serious injuries after she was hit by a car in San Gwann, the police said.

The accident took place in Naxxar Road at 2pm.

The 86-year-old from San Gwann was hit by a Land Rover Freelander, driven by a 40-year-old woman, also of San Gwann.

Magistrate Charmaine Galea is leading an inquiry.
