Where to find the predator

Sunday, 12 May 2019, 09:17 Last update: about 6 years ago

Where there is the prey, surely there you will find the predator.

I heard this from a hunter of bacteriophages: viruses which kill bacteria. She is hunting for bacteriophages which attack bacteria resistant to antibiotics. In Georgia, there is an important clinic which has been working for more than 100 years in this area. The West focussed largely on antibiotics and the then USSR explored the area of bacteriophages.

So she collects water from infected rivers to find these viruses. It is really true that the predator is found where there is the prey.

So where there is loads of money to be made, the temptation of corruption is very great too, which makes me ask why our politicians do not close the loopholes in the Planning Law and why they let development run riot.

Where power is unbridled, it corrupts. So I wonder why those who play it as though they are our champions and saviours attack the independent media and do not work for the separation of powers and checks and balances.
