One size does not fit all - MEP Francis Zammit Dimech

The Nationalist Party said today Malta needs to work harder to see that European funds are made available when freak storms and other calamities hit the islands.

We need to immediately work for better solutions in the way these funds are distributed, especially to small countries such as Malta and try to move away from the concept that one size fits all, MEP Francis Zammit Dimech.

Yesterday it was announced that the February storm caused €25 million worth of damage and that whilst Malta had applied for the European Solidarity Fund (EUSF) the island was not eligible for this support.

The concept that one size fits all is extremely negative and the party wants to see that the way these funds are distributed is changed so that in the future Malta could benefit from them, if similar storms hit the country again.

PN MEP candidate Roselyn Borg Knight said that in the past Malta benefitted greatly from a number of EU funds and that the Nationalist Party will continue to work towards improving the quality of life for all Maltese and Gozitans. “What applies for big countries does not always apply for smaller ones; that is why the one size fits all mentality needs to stop.”
