A 62-year-old Frenchwoman has been grievously injured after she was hit by a car in Victoria, Gozo, the police said.

The accident took place in Triq ir-Repubblika at around 2.30pm.

The police said a Lexus that was being driven by a 46-year-old from Gharb hit the woman, who lives in Bugibba.

The casualty was taken to the Gozo General Hospital for treatment.

Police investigations are ongoing.
