Partit Demokratiku's four MEP candidates Camilla Appelgren, Anthony Buttigieg, Martin Cauchi Inglott and Godfrey Farrugia have released a joint statement to outline their commitment towards a European economy which works for everyone, and where everyone has the chance to succeed. Malta's economy is inseparable from the wider European market, and the challenges facing the Maltese must be addressed with European solutions. The Maltese are facing a rising cost of living, inequalities in the workplace, a worsening work-life balance and various other challenges to their quality of life, arising from an economy which prioritises the interests of the wealthy over the interests of the average worker.

"Partit Demokratiku is therefore committing to a European budget and economy which provides affordable and decent housing, a market with easy access to healthy and clean food, quality healthcare and dignified jobs which pay a liveable wage. We cannot have a government which claims to have a social conscience when some people are more equal than others. Europe needs to invest in people, through their formation, nurturing them at all stages of life and supporting their successes," Partit Demokratiku's MEP candidates have pledged.

Partit Demokratiku said it would like to see a European economy which is ethical, and respects the social contract, fostering an innovative and competitive economy which is friendly to small and medium businesses and entrepreneurs. As Partit Demokratiku has also committed to Malta joining the coalition of 8 European states fighting for 25% of the European budget to be dedicated towards climate change, this pledge is an opportunity for a deal for Europe where a circular economy is created, with new quality jobs across various sectors.

Partit Demokratiku said it wants to ensure social justice and a competitive economy for all of Malta and Europe, where a comprehensive European legal framework determines and protects the minimum rights of workers in all Member States, from equal pay for equal work, to the recognition that everyone has a right to a dignified life, liberty and personal security.  It is social justice that guarantees progress and prosperity, rather than rule by a select few, hbieb tal-qalba.
