The Malta Union of Teachers this afternoon said that the directives for no exams to be held in Maltese and maths in government secondary schools will remain in place, the exams however, will still be held the government countered.
It is clear, the MUT said, that the government is not understanding the issue and is not trying to find a solution.
The MUT claimed that the government came up with an “indecent proposal” which is an “insult to teachers and degrading to the teaching profession.”
The government, the MUT said, offered a one-time payment of €3,000 to teachers who have a full load of 25 lessons if the directives are withdrawn.
In reply, the government said that meetings were held with the union over the past two days in search of a solution.
The ministry said that the exams in the two subjects in question will take place according to the timetables issued.
The ministry said it hoped a solution will be found in the coming days.
