PN’s Executive Committee to meet again on Saturday to decide on Stellini’s seat

The Nationalist Party’s Executive Committee will meet again on Saturday to decide on who gets the parliamentary seat vacated by Gozitan MP David Stellini.

The committee will also be discussing the European Parliament and local council election results.

Last Saturday, the executive committee voted for the PN’s political coordinator, Jean Pierre Debono, to replace Stellini, but the process was marred by the resignation of its president, Mark Anthony Sammut, who claimed that the process was vitiated.

Sammut said that treasurer David Camilleri and David Stellini should not have been allowed to vote. Stellini was the President of the Administrative Committee. David Camilleri resigned his post on Monday as a result of the controversy.

On the same day, Debono renounced his co-option.

Party sources confirmed that the committee will meet again on Saturday morning.

It is believed, that someone will be appointed to preside over the meeting since the post of president of the executive is currently vacant, after Sammut’s resignation.

The post, along with that of president of the administrative committee will not be filled in time for Saturday’s meeting.

Meanwhile, the PN’s Parliamentary Group will meet on Monday afternoon and it is expected that the PN MPs will discuss the party’s internal situation.
