Mellieha building collapse: ‘There are clear responsibilities’ – PM Muscat

Saturday, 8 June 2019, 13:35 Last update: about 6 years ago

Prime Minister Joseph Muscat said there are clear responsibilities when accidents similar to the one in Mellieha today take place.

Speaking on One Radio in an interview that will be aired on Sunday, Muscat said people raise questions each time accidents such as the one in Mellieha today and in Guardamangia in April happen.

“The responsibilities are clear in these circumstances. You have professionals who sign documents, they have a warrant for these things and there is a contractor that needs to follow instructions given by the architect. All in all the responsibilities are clear and nobody can escape them,” Muscat said.

He added that the regulatory bodies pertaining to the construction industry will be brought together under one authority. The government does not intervene in individual projects but said that much more needs to be done when it comes to enforcing regulations.

He said that a meeting will be held with all stakeholders in the business. “We must pull the same rope,” he said.
