An evening with Liverpool legend Jan Molby

Tuesday, 11 June 2019, 12:31 Last update: about 6 years ago

Behind the famous Shankly gates of Anfield lies one of the most prestigious clubs in world football. Legends from Ian Rush to Robbie Fowler, Steven Gerrard and even 'King' Kenny Dalglish himself have helped establish Liverpool FC as true football royalty. Some of the greatest players in the game have featured in front of The Kop on the famous hallowed green turf, and few are held in higher regard than Denmark's Jan Molby.

Watching Jan Molby control the game with a dazzlingly effective and effortless playing style was akin to an orchestra conductor in motion. Laying claim to one of the best right feet in English football, he caught the eye of many and was worshipped by millions of fans. Anyone lucky enough to be on the receiving end of one of his many assists would concur. As goal machine and best pal Ian Rush once explained, "With tactical intelligence and Nordic strength, we experienced a genuine artist at work."

Thursday 20 June at City Theatre in Valletta is your chance to listen to the remarkable tales and funny stories of a football maverick in a stage show hosted by the popular Scouse comedian Jamie Sutherland. The Fan Zone will enjoy a live performance from the talented singer and songwriter Tricia McTeague who have completed a very successful tour with the German artist Schiller playing big stadiums in Germany. This Widnes born entertainer is a true Red and a big fan of Malta!

To pull on the iconic red shirt and line up to the chorus of You'll Never Walk Alone from the Kop, is nothing more than a dream for most. This event is your chance to hear from a man who enjoyed and experienced the heyday of Liverpool Football Club first hand, sharing the dressing room with so many other famous names.

Not a Liverpool fan? No need to worry about that. Jan Molby is more than just an honorary Scouser. So much more.

Born in Denmark in 1963, the gentle giant that is Jan Molby soon outgrew his native land. After only one year in local club Kolding, Dutch champions Ajax came calling. The Great Dane spent two years in Amsterdam, cutting his teeth and honing his skills alongside one of European footballs greatest icon's, the late, great Johan Cruyff.  Following this period, Molby spent 12 gloriously successful years in Liverpool, scoring 44 goals from midfield and also lifting the league title for the last time in Liverpool's history, back in 1990. Nicknamed Rambo, with nerves of steel, the Danish super star was voted by many football experts to be one of the most influential foreign imports to have ever graced the English game.

Ever wondered how Jurgen Klopp compares to Sir Alex Ferguson and Arsene Wenger? Curious what it's like to play in the Ajax team captained by Johan Cruyff? Do you want to know how Liverpool celebrated winning The Double in 85-86? If you just have any questions about the Danish Dynamite and the fantastic '86 World Cup team, then come along to Valletta on 20 June.

You're in for a real fan zone experience, and all your questions will be answered by one of a treat, in the company of one of football's greatest storytellers, the man himself, Jan Molby.
