A man was seriously injured on Thursday evening when two boats collided in the channel between Gozo and Comino, the police said.

The accident took place at around 10.15pm, and involved a boat piloted by a 27-year-old from Macedonia, resident in Zebbug, Gozo, and another boat piloted by a 48-year-old man of Naxxar, who had a 35-year-old woman on board.

The Macedonian man was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Magistrate Paul Coppini is conducting an inquiry.
